CONCEPT

滋賀県東近江市の古い集落の入口に位置する女流合気道家の道場と一時的な住処の計画である。敷地は田園地帯の中にあり、太郎坊宮があるかつて修験道であり霊山である赤神山や紅かす山、氏神が居る鎮守の森などに囲われた霊性の高い環境にある。

合気道場もまた神聖な場であり、周囲と呼応する霊性の高い場をつくろうと考えた。合気道は受け身を基本とし、螺旋運動を中心とした動きが特徴的である。合気道の身体運動からスタディしていき、流れるような胎内的空間にたどり着いた。

全体の形態は、南北軸に長く扁平したドーム形状とし、神聖な方角である北側に吹き抜けをもつ道場空間を配置し、南側1階に師範と道場生のための共有空間、2階に 師範のプライベート空間を配置した。外郭のシェル屋根は、流通木材の短材をずらして接合したアーチ材によってつくられる。シェル内外の仕上には、地場の土を用いた左官で仕上げ、外部は投げつけた泥団子の仕上、内部は縄文土器の表面から発展させた多くの人々の手刀によって仕上げ、この道場建築に多くの人々の魂を入れ込もうとした。この土地の周囲に蠢くエネルギーを最大限享受できる道場空間をつくろうとした。

This project aims at building a dojo for a female aikido practitioner. Aikido Dojo is rather a sacred place where practitioners train their physical and mental. RAA used the natural materials (Soil and Wood) and created organic architecture that takes an advantage of the local characteristics, so that Dojo that can only be realized at this site has been built. The essence of Aikido is to harmonize oneself with the movement of the universe and to unite oneself with the universe itself. It seeks to cultivate the unity of the forces flowing through the universe through the body and to elevate the human spirit.

Aikido dojo should be a sacred place where both the body and the mind can be trained. The site is surrounded with the sacred mountains that were once the site of Shugendo (Training place for the Practioners). The site is dotted with small shrines that embraces the gods of the village and a forest of shrine guardians. By creating an architecture that responds to the natural world around it, the biggest challenge of this project was to pursue a spatiality that would allow us to physically and mentally train ourselves while experiencing the invisible.
